LPGA*USGA Girls Golf participants get excited for golf at the Greater Newark Girls Golf chapter in New Jersey.

The United States Golf Association (USGA) recently announced grants to twelve chapters of LPGA*USGA Girls Golf directly impacting more than 2,000 young girls. One such chapter is Greater Newark Girls Golf led by site director Beverly Harrison.

Beverly Harrison

Greater Newark Girls Golf seeks to increase the number of inner city minority youth who play golf by establishing partnerships with area golf associations and golf clubs for financial support,  access to local country clubs, and the establishment of mentor-mentee relationships with junior golfers. This push is more important than ever as youth golf is on the rise, particularly for girls. LPGA*USGA Girls Golf is continuing their mission to create a more diverse and inclusive game.

This USGA grant will go directly into funding field trips, transportation, youth clinics course fees, and golf items for the young girls as they continue their mission as a non-profit organization to champion and advance the game. Additionally, this funding ties into the LPGA’s C-Me initiative started in November 2020 to change the face of golf. C-Me was started so that young women and girls of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, religions, physical abilities, etc. feel welcome and included when watching and participating in golf.

Greater Newark Girls Golf is a wonderful catalyst to increase youth participation in golf among girls who have been under-represented in the game thus making the game richer, more inclusive, and welcoming for all.
