Amari Avery, the 16-year-old junior golf prodigy from Riverside, California, will compete against adult men for the first time Sunday, August 30, in the APGA Tour Los Angeles at Montebello Golf Course.

The one-day, 18-hole competition is the seventh event of the season on the APGA Tour, which provides opportunities for minority golfers to hone their skills in pursuit of the dream of playing professional golf for a living.

Avery has made history as a youth player in Southern California and broke through last year,  winning the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur. She has also recently placed second overall at a Cactus Tour event and finished in third place at the Ping Invitational in Oklahoma, playing among the best junior girls in the country.

“We’ll be trying to win, but it’s more about having fun,” said her father, Andre Avery.  “Amari wants to go out there and relax and learn something from these guys.”

Amari Avery has a strong competitive history as a teen golf prodigy having already shattered a number of Tiger Woods‘ age group records during her younger days, including having had the fastest rise in history up the Rolex AJGA rankings into the “Top 10.”  In 2017, the Southern California resident was ranked #438 and ranked #10 as the youngest member of the Top 10 of that time.

The APGA Tour regular season concludes on Tuesday and Wednesday with the $50,000 APGA Tour Championship Presented by Lexus at Pacific Palms Resort.

All tournaments are conducted under social distancing and health/safety guidelines in conjunction with regional authorities.
