Meet the Pros Virtual Career Fair Opens Doors to New Opportunities in the Golf Industry

by AAGD Staff

The golf industry offers a wide range of career opportunities beyond playing professionally, and a new virtual networking initiative is encouraging job seekers to connect directly with employers, recruiters and industry leaders. Meet the Pros, promoted by Wendy Caves, PHR, a Chief People Officer and global talent and culture executive, is designed to help individuals explore career possibilities through personal conversations with leading organizations.

The virtual career fair offers participants a different approach to traditional job searching. Rather than navigating virtual exhibit booths or submitting applications without personal contact, attendees can select their preferred times, choose the companies they want to meet and schedule one-on-one conversations with recruiters. New participating companies and recruiters are reportedly being added regularly.

The initiative arrives at an important time for golf, an industry experiencing increased participation while continuing to confront longstanding workforce diversity challenges.

According to the National Golf Foundation, approximately 7.7 million Asian, Black and Hispanic golfers played on U.S. golf courses in 2025, representing a record 26% of traditional on-course golfers. This growth reflects an increasingly diverse participant base and creates opportunities for businesses to connect with new audiences. However, greater diversity among golfers has not yet translated into comparable representation among golf professionals and industry leadership.

The numbers are particularly striking within the PGA of America. The PGA of America REACH Foundation has reported that fewer than 170 Black PGA of America Golf Professionals are represented among its worldwide membership. That disparity highlights the need to expand professional pathways, mentorship, recruitment and advancement opportunities for African Americans interested in golf careers.

Several initiatives are working to address these challenges. PGA WORKS, the PGA of America REACH Foundation’s workforce development initiative, uses fellowships, scholarships, career exploration events and educational partnerships to introduce individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to opportunities in golf and related industries. Its 2023–2024 impact report documented a 79% job placement rate in the golf industry among its fellows.

Career opportunities extend well beyond teaching and playing. Golf courses, resorts, manufacturers, professional tours, media companies, equipment retailers and industry associations require talent in human resources, marketing, communications, finance, hospitality, sales, event management, technology, operations and executive leadership.

For African American professionals, students, career changers and individuals seeking to enter the golf business, direct access to recruiters can be an important first step. Personal conversations offer an opportunity to communicate experience, learn about employer expectations, ask questions and establish relationships that may develop into future employment opportunities.

Meet the Pro(fessional)s seeks to make those connections easier and more accessible. Its flexible scheduling model allows participants to take a more active role in deciding whom they meet and when they connect.

As golf continues to broaden its audience, developing a workforce that reflects the communities supporting the game will be equally important. Connecting diverse talent with employers is one way to help build a stronger, more representative future for the golf industry.
