Award-winning, multi-talented, critically acclaimed, theatrical/television/film actor Russell Hornsby (BMF, The Hate U Give, Creed II, Fences, Lost in Space, The Affair, Grimm, Lincoln Heights, etc.) delivers the performance of a lifetime as the crazy and infamous boxing promoter Don King in “Mike,” a Hulu limited series about one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time and “the baddest man on the planet.”
The series follows Mike Tyson from his early childhood to his days in prison. Hornsby plays opposite of Harvey Keitel and Moonlight’s Trevante Rhodes, helmed by the team behind the award-winning film “I, Tonya”, premiering August 25th.
In “Mike”, Hornsby captures Don King’s eccentric personality through his shocking hairstyle, infectious smile, booming laugh, and inimitable vocabulary. While the series chronicles Mike Tyson’s iconic rise through the ranks to become the youngest heavyweight champion of all time—and his criminal history, fall from grace, and eventual comeback.
Covering everything from Tyson’s domestic violence allegations to the infamous bite heard ’round the world, the series seeks to show Tyson as a full-fledged, yet flawed, human being.
Hornsby has worked non-stop in Hollywood for over two decades and has turned in award-winning and buzzed-about performances in films including FOX 2000’s THE HATE U GIVE with Amandla Stenberg and Regina Hall, CREED II opposite Michael B. Jordan, the Oscar-nominated Paramount film FENCES opposite Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, Netflix’s “Seven Seconds” with Regina King and on Showtime’s “The Affair”.
