Stephen Sanders, Jr., an 11-year-old junior golfer from Grand Prairie, Texas, has earned an invitation to compete at the Drive, Chip, & Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

The Drive, Chip, & Putt competition, founded by The Masters Tournament, The PGA of America, and the USGA, will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel beginning at approximately 7 a.m. CT.

Stephen, who goes by the nickname SJ, is excited about competing in the Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals at Augusta National. A few weeks ago, we caught up with SJ as he prepared for the competition.

“What makes me excited about going to Augusta is competing with my best friend Ethan [Li], who is going to be playing, and being with my dad and my family,” he said.

Much of his journey has been shaped by the connection he has with his dad, who introduced him to golf. His father will be his caddie during the competition, a role that holds great significance for SJ.

“To have my dad caddie for me means so much. There is not a word that can express it,” he said. “He is the best dad I will ever have. He’s great to me.”

As he prepares for Augusta, he is keeping his focus sharp and his mindset clear.

“I’m focusing on my technique. Trying to hit the ball straighter without letting my nerves take over. Hitting it down the middle, I’m trying to win.”

SJ is also confident about his future goals. “I want to become a professional golfer,” SJ said. “I want to have more majors than Jack and more PGA TOUR wins than Sam Snead!”

That confidence is matched by dedication. SJ started playing golf at age six and has been a Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour member for five years and has competed in more than 100 tournaments.

SJ’s journey to Augusta showcases hard work, dedication, strong family support and a love for the game that can inspire young athletes across the country.
