Tanzania “Saturday Fiddle” Golf Event Set for 2026

by AAGD Staff

The Tanzania “Saturday Fiddle” Golf Event 2026 is expected to be one of the most anticipated social and competitive golf gatherings on the country’s sporting calendar. Scheduled for Saturday, 18 July 2026, the event will take place at the prestigious Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam, a venue known for hosting some of Tanzania’s most competitive amateur and professional tournaments.

Lugalo Golf Club, operated under the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF), is widely regarded as one of the country’s most strategic and well-maintained courses. The 18-hole layout is known for its tight fairways, challenging bunkers, and coastal breezes that test both precision and course management. Over the years, Lugalo has become a central hub for national championships, Pro-Am events, and development tournaments aimed at growing the game in East Africa.

The “Saturday Fiddle” event has its roots in a long-standing tradition of friendly, community-driven golf competitions in Tanzania. Historically, “Fiddle” tournaments were informal weekend gatherings designed to bring golfers together in a relaxed but competitive environment. These events often combined sport with networking, fundraising, and social engagement, making them popular among both seasoned golfers and corporate participants.

Over time, the Saturday Fiddle format evolved into a more structured event, attracting higher-level amateur players, club professionals, and visiting golfers from across the region. The 2026 edition continues that tradition while introducing a more organized format featuring multiple divisions, including Men’s Gross, Men’s Net, Ladies’ Division, and Senior Categories. A special team scramble format is also expected to encourage participation from corporate sponsors and guest players.

According to organizers, the 2026 event will feature an 18-hole stroke play format with additional novelty contests such as longest drive, nearest to the pin, and putting challenges. These side competitions are designed to enhance the social experience while keeping the competitive spirit alive throughout the day.

The tournament is being coordinated by a committee of local golf stakeholders in partnership with Lugalo Golf Club management and the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU). Organizers have emphasized that the event is not only about competition but also about strengthening the golf community, promoting inclusivity, and supporting the continued growth of the sport at grassroots level.

Registration for the event is expected to open in May 2026 and close one week before tournament day. Entry fees will vary depending on category, with discounted rates available for junior and amateur golfers. Players are encouraged to register early due to limited slots.

For participation, sponsorship, or additional information, interested golfers and partners can contact the organizing committee through the Lugalo Golf Club Secretariat.
