Masters Madness: A Pricey Par-Tee

by AAGD Staff

The 2024 Masters Tournament will be the 88th edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of the men’s four major golf championships held in 2024. A field of 89 players will compete for the trophy. The tournament will be played from April 11–14 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia and it’s believed around 40,000 patrons attend the event Thursday-Sunday. More attend Monday-Wednesday for the practice rounds and Masters par-3 contest.

Attendees come from around the world and many need accommodations. To decipher the cryptic language of laying your head down for a restful night, Better Collective analyzed over 1000 accommodation listings to find out what are the average prices of a 4-nights stay for two people near Augusta and how they compare to the weeks after the Masters tournament.  Here, we will dive headfirst into the labyrinth of over a thousand listings, ready to unravel the mysteries of cost and convenience.

Behold, the saga of Airbnb!

Picture this: between the 11th and 15th of April, when the air is thick with anticipation and the greens are greener than a leprechaun’s dream, the average price for a four-night stay is a staggering $3,420. But wait for it—hold onto your visors—because the week after, it nosedives faster than a rookie’s golf ball into the water hazard, plummeting to a mere $597. That’s right, a decrease so dramatic it’ll make your wallet do a victory dance!

The Bandaid of Booking.com

And let’s not forget our trusty sidekick, Booking.com, here to sprinkle a little extra spice on our adventure. In their corner of the ring, the tale unfolds with a similar flair: $1,903 for a pre-Masters stay, followed by a post-Masters plunge to $603. It’s like watching Cinderella’s carriage turn back into a pumpkin, only this time, it’s your bank account feeling the magic.

Now, brace yourselves for the grand finale—the moment when Booking.com and Airbnb join forces to reveal the ultimate truth. For a four-night escapade between April 11th and 15th, the combined average price near Augusta is $2,662. But fear not, intrepid travelers, for the week after sees a miraculous transformation, with prices dwindling down to a mere $600. It’s like finding a pot of gold at the end of the fairway!

Here’s a big surprise. As of April 10th, some hidden gems have been uncovered in the accommodation jungle. Picture this: a cozy room with shared spaces, just a chip shot away from Augusta National Club, for a steal at $300. Or perhaps you fancy yourself a king or queen of the castle, with an entire home within walking distance going for a princely sum of $12,240. Hey, a little luxury never hurt anyone’s swing!

And over in the wild world of Booking.com, the options are just as tantalizing. A humble room in a two-star hotel, a mere seven and a half miles from Augusta National, beckons at $660. But why settle for modest when you can go big? Treat yourself to a king suite in a three-star palace, a mere 2.4 miles away, for the bargain price of $4,560. Because who needs savings when you can have swankiness?

And so, dear friends, as we close the chapter on this epic quest, let us remember: when it comes to Masters accommodations, the price may be steep, but the memories are priceless. Until next time, may your putts be true and your wallets ever full!
