The 2025 Masters Tournament delivered all the drama, tradition, and excellence that golf fans around the world have come to expect from Augusta National. Played from April 10–13, this year’s edition was highlighted by stellar play, emotional moments, and a historic finish.
Rory McIlroy finally completed his career Grand Slam, capturing the elusive green jacket after years of near-misses. He outlasted Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff, securing victory with a birdie on the first extra hole. McIlroy’s win not only placed him in golf’s most exclusive club but also ended an 11-year drought since his last major championship title.
The final round was filled with tension. McIlroy held a one-shot lead heading into the 18th, only to bogey and fall into a tie with Rose, who had posted a brilliant 66. The playoff brought the packed galleries to their feet as McIlroy drained a clutch putt for the win.
Beyond the leaderboard, the 2025 Masters showcased Augusta’s timeless beauty and the game’s rising stars. Young talents made strong showings, signaling a bright future for the sport. Yet, it was McIlroy’s redemption and emotional triumph that stole the show—an unforgettable Masters that etched his name among the legends. The 2026 Masters will be held April 6 – 12.

Rory McIlroy Finally Wins the Masters as a Grand Slam Journey Ends in Green
Rory McIlroy emerged victorious at Augusta National as the winner of the 89th Masters tournament, capturing the one major that had eluded him and securing his place in golf immortality. McIlroy was in a dramatic showdown with Justin Rose, with both tied at 11-under par, and only needed one playoff hole to win. He finished with a 1-over 73 before heading into the playoff. McIlroy’s Master win gains him a record $4.2 million, an increase of $600,000 from what Scottie Scheffler earned when he captured his second green jacket in 2024.
The finish on April 13 was as dramatic as Augusta National can deliver. McIlroy entered the final hole with a one-shot lead but couldn’t save par, setting up a playoff with Rose, who shot a brilliant final-round 66. With the victory, McIlroy becomes the sixth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. After sinking the winning putt, McIlroy dropped to his knees, visibly emotional. Years of pain and frustration melted away as he finally claimed his first green jacket.
“It feels incredible,” McIlroy said afterward on CBS. “This is my 17th time here and I started to wonder if it would ever be my time. The last ten years coming here with the burden of the Grand Slam on my shoulders and trying to achieve that. I’m sort of wondering what we are going to talk about going into next year’s Masters. I’m honored and thrilled and so proud to call myself a Masters champion.”
McIlroy, 35, becomes the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2000 to complete the career Grand Slam. It has been nearly ten years since his last major win—the 2014 PGA Championship. That makes this the sixth-longest span between major championship victories.
McIlroy has now converted five of six 54-hole solo leads in major championships, a success rate matched only by legends like Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. He also became the first Masters champion to overcome four double bogeys or worse during the tournament and only the second to win after bogeying the first hole of the final round. For the ninth straight year, the Masters winner came from the final pairing on Sunday.

The design is eye-catching and unpredictable (in the best way), giving off that “controlled chaos” vibe—perfect for players who like to stand out on the fairway. But this polo isn’t just about looks. The premium technical fabric brings serious performance: 4-way stretch for comfort and mobility, UPF 40 for sun protection, moisture-wicking to keep you dry, and wrinkle resistance for easy care. It’s breathable, flexible, and built for long days on the course (or the 19th hole).
Available in sizes Small through 4XL, the fit is inclusive and true to size, making it a solid pick for just about anyone. At $64.00, it sits in the sweet spot between style and function without breaking the bank.
Bottom line? The Acid Rain Polo brings serious style and substance. If you’re into performance gear with personality, this one’s a no-brainer. $64.00 Available at https://sundayswagger.com

Augusta Municipal Golf Course, affectionately known as “The Patch,” has a long and storied history in Augusta, Georgia. Established in 1928, The course has served as a cornerstone of public golf in the city for nearly a century. Nestled just a few miles from the world-famous Augusta National Golf Club it as built to provide the everyday golfer an accessible and affordable venue to enjoy the game.
Over the years, The Patch has welcomed golfers of all skill levels and backgrounds. It has been a place where generations of Augustans have learned to play, competed, and built community around a shared passion for golf. Its original 18-hole layout featured tree-lined fairways and a classic design that provided both challenge and enjoyment. Though modest in comparison to Augusta’s more glamorous golfing neighbors, The Patch held a special place in the hearts of local players. But as years have gone by the course has also been declining in its modernity.
The Patch Project is an ambitious renovation plan aimed at strengthening public golf in the Augusta, Georgia community. Its mission is to increase access to golf while fostering opportunities for young people and residents to play and work in the sport.
The initiative is led by The Patch Project, LLC, a collaboration between Augusta Technical College, The First Tee of Augusta, and Masters Tournament Charities, Inc. The support of Augusta National Golf Club and its chairman, Fred Ridley, has been pivotal in advancing the multi-phase effort.
Key announcements have shaped the timeline of the renovation. On April 5, 2023, Ridley announced Augusta National’s commitment to supporting the project. In April 2024, Tom Fazio Design and Beau Welling Design were revealed as the architects for the new 18-hole course. The Patch officially closed for construction on December 30, 2024. During Masters Week on April 7, 2025, the full master plan was unveiled, including renderings and logos for the redesigned course and clubhouse. The Patch is expected to reopen in April 2026.
The renovation includes a new 18-hole course designed by Fazio and Welling that will retain the character of 11 existing holes while expanding playing areas by 20 percent. The 9-hole short course, named “The Loop at The Patch,” will be designed by TGR Design by Tiger Woods and will feature a walkable layout with artificial turf tees.
The practice facilities will also be transformed with a 380-yard driving range, multiple teeing areas, and short game spaces expanded by 700 percent. Additionally, a new clubhouse, outdoor pavilion, and agronomy facility with future classroom space will support both golfers and educational programming.
The Patch Project represents a significant investment in public golf and youth development in Augusta.
Throughout its history, the golf course has faced its share of challenges. Changes in management, funding limitations, and aging infrastructure led to periods of decline. However, its cultural and recreational significance remained strong, with community members rallying to preserve and revitalize the course. It became a vital training ground for young players, especially through programs like The First Tee of Augusta, which introduced countless youth to golf and valuable life skills.

In recent years, a renewed vision for The Patch has emerged, culminating in a major renovation effort led by a partnership between Augusta Technical College, The First Tee of Augusta, and Masters Tournament Charities. This new chapter in The Patch’s history includes plans for a reimagined 18-hole course, a 9-hole short course designed by TGR Design, and vastly improved facilities.
As The Patch approaches its 100th anniversary, it stands poised to continue serving the Augusta community as a vibrant hub for public golf, education, and opportunity.
The total prize money for those professionals competing in the 2025 Masters
