Silver Golfers Association: Building Fellowship and Competition Through the Game of Golf

by AAGD Staff

In the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, the Silver Golfers Association has become much more than a golf league. It is a thriving community of passionate golfers brought together by competition, camaraderie, and a shared love for the game. Founded by Curtis Forrest, the organization has grown into one of the area’s most active golf associations, providing members with a structured schedule of tournaments, fellowship opportunities, and an environment that welcomes golfers of varying skill levels.

Under Forrest’s leadership, the Silver Golfers Association has established itself as a respected organization dedicated to preserving the traditions of golf while fostering lasting relationships among its members. What began as an idea to create opportunities for golfers to regularly enjoy competitive play has evolved into an association with 94 members who return year after year for the unique experience the league provides.

“Our goal has always been to create an atmosphere where golfers can enjoy the game, challenge themselves, and build meaningful connections,” said Forrest. “Golf has a way of bringing people together, and that’s exactly what the Silver Golfers Association represents.”

The association’s leadership team reflects a commitment to excellence and service. Supporting Forrest is a Board of Directors comprised of Stacey McCloud, Darryle Melson, and Ronald Natson. Together, they oversee the continued growth and operation of the organization while ensuring that members receive a quality experience both on and off the golf course.

The day-to-day administration of competitions is handled by Tournament Director Stephon Echols, who coordinates the league’s extensive schedule of events. Handicap Director Raushan Shabazz manages the association’s handicap system, ensuring fair competition among participants of all playing abilities.

Based in Atlanta, the Silver Golfers Association calls several of the city’s premier public golf facilities home. League events are played primarily at Wolf Creek Golf Club, John A. White Golf Course, and Historic College Park Golf Course. These venues provide members with diverse playing experiences, challenging layouts, and convenient locations throughout the metropolitan area.

The organization’s robust calendar is one of its defining characteristics. Members participate in league play 23 times each year, including an impressive slate of 15 golf tournaments. The regular schedule allows golfers to remain active throughout the season while enjoying both friendly and highly competitive events.

Operating as a co-op league, the Silver Golfers Association emphasizes shared participation and mutual support among its members. The format encourages fellowship while maintaining the integrity and excitement of tournament competition.

Membership in the Silver Golfers Association offers exceptional value. The initial cost to join is $400, which includes eight association golf shirts and a USGA handicap. The comprehensive membership package ensures that golfers are equipped to participate fully in league activities while enjoying the benefits of an official handicap index.

Annual renewal fees are set at $100, allowing members to continue participating in the association’s events and programs at an affordable cost.

For many members, however, the greatest benefit extends beyond tournament prizes and competitive rounds. The association has become a place where friendships are strengthened, mentoring relationships are formed, and a sense of community flourishes.

Whether members are striving to lower their handicap, compete for tournament honors, or simply enjoy a Saturday morning round with fellow enthusiasts, the Silver Golfers Association provides an outlet that celebrates the spirit of the game.

As the organization continues to grow, Curtis Forrest and his leadership team remain committed to delivering memorable experiences for Atlanta-area golfers. Through consistency, strong leadership, and an unwavering passion for golf, the Silver Golfers Association continues to demonstrate how local golf organizations can positively impact their communities—one round at a time.
