LIV Golf kicked off its 3rd event at Bedminster Golf Club owned by former President Donald J. Trump. The atmosphere was one of excitement that kicked off with a parachute drop and glaring music on the first Tee.
The course setup had many elements different from the PGA Tour (PGAT) event—from team competition to a 54-hole competition with a $4 million first place prize along with ruckus crowd participation. A fan Village featured a golf performance center that offered swing simulators and a chipping and putting challenge with professional coaches on hand for tips.
More of the experience included a Kids Fun Zone fully staffed with workers, and food trucks offering various types of foods in a party-type atmosphere where far different from what one would experience at a PGAT event. Despite the star-studded lineup of household name golf superstars like Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepkra, and Patrick Reed, the crowds were sparse.
Many fairways were near empty but the tee boxes were crowded with vibrant crowds.
LIV Golf has a way to go. They have to overcome a lot of initial bad publicity as a league and so does its individual players. They can make some suggested outreach to the African American community by marketing to its golfing community, its tv viewers and its business community for inclusion and opportunities.

After sharing with his millions of fans that he had been in talks with LIV, Barkley has ended any speculation, stating: ‘I’m staying with Turner for the rest of my TV career’
However, the caveat for the basketball Hall of Famer who is now staying put at TNT, it is unclear whether Turner will extend Barkley’s contract which has three years left to go. Coincidentally, his contract ends at the same time as the network’s deal with the NBA.
With the third event of LIV Golf underway at Trump National Bedminster, beginning on Friday, and pro golfer Bubba Watson being announced as the newest signing during the broadcast things are continuing to get more, and more interesting for the new Saudi-backed series.
Speaking to the New York Post, the former Basketball player turned TV analyst, revealed that he won’t be moving to LIV Golf as a broadcaster. “I want to thank Greg Norman and LIV for their interest in me. I wish those guys great success and nothing but the best. But, in my best interest, and being fair to Turner — because Turner and basketball have given me every single thing in my life, it is best for me to move on and I’m staying with Turner for the rest of my TV career,” said 59-year old Barkley.
Barkley is a former MVP with the NBA and has $30 million remaining on his TNT deal. The New York Post and Barkley also stated that, besides the $10 million a year he makes from TNT, he also makes another $10 million in endorsements, including Subway, Capital One and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
“My number one priority is to be fair to Turner and my sponsors to be honest with you,” Barkley explained. “I couldn’t just keep them holding on so I made up my mind [Thursday] night. I was like, ‘Make a decision and live with it.’ ”
The only way that LIV could possibly attract Barkley is, “If they offer me something crazy, I’m gonna take it too. Considering how much I make now, it would take a really huge number for me to give up my life right now. I’m not gonna give up my life for… I don’t like to talk about how much money I make,” he said while speaking on The Dan Patrick Show.

IF YOU’VE NOT SEEN IT: Watch Caitlyn Jenner and Charles Barkley tee off at the Pro Am 2022 LIV Golf Invitational
WATCH VIDEO BELOW!
The popular new LIV Golf Invitational Series at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster had some big names scheduled for last Thursday’s pro-am, including the club’s namesake.
In case you missed it, Former President of the United States Donald Trump teeed it up alongside Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau in the first group out at 10 a.m. ET. Other celebrities joining the mix was media personality and former Olympic decathlete Caitlyn Jenner, football Hall of Famers Lawrence Taylor and Brian Urlacher as well as basketball legend Charles Barkley.
(WASHINGTON, D.C.)–NAACP President and CEO, Derrick Johnson, along with a cohort of NAACP leaders will travel with a delegation of 40 young students on a transformative journey to Ghana as part of the Amos C. Brown Fellowship, from July 31 to August 10.
The fully funded 10-day experience will lead 40 young scholars ages 18 and 25 from the United States to Ghana. The students will be immersed in Ghanaian culture, gain deep insights into their ancestral heritage, learn about the historical connections between decolonization and the Civil Rights Movement and discuss current global social justice movements.
The program is the first of its kind to be powered by the NAACP. Selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants, the fellows, current college students and recent college graduates come from communities across the country from New York, Georgia, and California to Michigan, Utah, and Texas. For many, this journey is their first visit to the Continent. The experience will prepare them to be global-minded social change agents on issues such as health equity, legal advocacy, education, and economic empowerment.
The program is in collaboration with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
The Amos C. Brown Fellowship is taking place three years after the NAACP led another delegation of more than 300 people to Ghana for the country’s Year of Return experience. In 2019, the Jamestown to Jamestown journey took participants of all ages to Ghana to retrace the path of Africans who were sold into slavery from the year 1619 and the centuries that followed.
Building on relationships formed during that journey, the NAACP continues to strengthen its ties with Ghana, and the African diaspora at large.
“In the years since the Year of Return and the social uprisings in 2020, it has become ever more apparent that the global Black community must use our collective strength, power, and resilience to fight against oppression at every level, and at every corner of the world,” said Derrick Johnson, NAACP President, and CEO. “NAACP remains committed to leading that charge and will do so by providing more opportunities for business investments, diaspora partnerships, and cultural experiences such as the Amos C. Brown Fellowship.”
Over the past three years, the NAACP has become increasingly invested in the African community, highlighting its music and culture through the NAACP Image Awards, and advocating for immigrant rights through its landmark supreme court win in NAACP v. Trump, which solidified the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
In 2020, the NAACP was one of the first major U.S. civil rights organizations to lend its support to the #EndSars movement, which spoke out against police brutality in Nigeria.

We have over 2,200 units and branches across the nation, along with well over 2M activists. Our mission is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
NOTE: The Legal Defense Fund – also referred to as the NAACP-LDF was founded in 1940 as a part of the NAACP, but separated in 1957 to become a completely separate entity. It is recognized as the nation’s first civil and human rights law organization and shares our commitment to equal rights.
Shady Rest Golf and Country Club was created for Black people who were denied membership to private clubs.

(TheRoot.com) — The National Park Service has added Shady Rest Golf and Country Club a listing on the National Register of Historic Places, according to Patch.com. The very first Black country club in the whole country will now be considered a historical landmark, as should every historically Black site.
Scotch Plains is a predominantly white (currently and historically) town in New Jersey, home to gorgeous big houses and fancy golf clubs. In all my years living next door to the town, I would’ve never thought a Black country club existed there.
Shady Rest was originally a property called The Westfield Golf Club which was bought in 1921 by a group of Black investors known as the Progressive Realty Company, Inc. The club was a recreational space for Black people who were not allowed membership to other private clubs due to segregation. According to Preserve Shady Rest, the club became widely known and hosted some our biggest icons including W.E.B DuBois, Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington.
You could play golf, ride horses, dine and listen to live music. Unfortunately, in 1938 the property went into foreclosure and was given over to Scotch Plains Township.
More on its preservation from Patch:
Located at 820 Jerusalem Road in Scotch Plains, Shady Rest is now considered a national landmark. It is listed among all the buildings, sites and districts across the nation worthy of preservation because of their significance in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering and culture.
“We could not be more pleased,” said Scotch Plains Mayor Josh Losardo in a statement. “For a number of years, the volunteers of the Preserve Shady Rest Committee, chaired by Tom Donatelli, have been steadily working toward achieving this important designation. The listing will further ensure that Shady Rest will remain an American landmark for perpetuity, enjoyed for generations, protected from development and a living reminder of a dark era in this nation, when African-Americans faced segregation.”
Much of the 1800s architecture had to be shaped up totaling to $1.1 million in rehabilitation, the report says. The historic features of the building were restored including the chimneys, ball room, walls and fireplace. Councilman Matt Adams said renovations will continue but encourages folks to come take a look and get a glimpse of the history.
“As we continue to renovate and expand recreational facilities town-wide, we hope many residents who have not yet visited Shady Rest take the opportunity to experience this local, and now nationally-listed, treasure,” said Adams via Patch.
Taking place Wednesday, August 10 (9-11 a.m. CT) at TPC Southwind in Memphis (Tenn.), the summit is being hosted by the procurement work group for Make Golf Your Thing, and being staged in conjunction with the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the kickoff event of the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs.

A former Chicago schoolteacher, she appeared on TV in ‘A Different World’ and ‘I’ll Fly Away,’ winning an Emmy in 1993.
Mary Alice, an actress known for her Emmy- and Tony Award-winning work in plays and TV shows such as Fences and I’ll Fly Away, died on July 27 at age 85. The NYPD confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter on July 28. Alice began her career in theater while working as a former Chicago elementary-school teacher.
Ms. Alice was born on December 3, 1936, in Indianola, Mississippi and she appeared in nearly 60 television shows and films. In 2000, she was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame. The death was confirmed by Detective Anthony Passaro, a police spokesman, who said officers responded to a 911 call and found Ms. Alice unresponsive.
“Her first acting was in Days of Absence and Happy Endings,” wrote Bob McCann in the 2009 Encyclopedia of African American Actresses in Film and Television. “For $200 a week she played three roles, and twice a week washed and ironed the cast’s laundry.” She was also known for her work as the Oracle in The Matrix Revolutions, a role in which she replaced Gloria Foster, with whom Alice had previously collaborated onstage in the 1995 production of Having Our Say: The Delaney Sisters’ First 100 Years.
Alice is perhaps best remembered for originating the role of Rose in August Wilson’s 1987 play Fences, a part that would later win Viola Davis a Tony and an Oscar. “Ms. Alice’s performance emphasizes strength over self-pity, open anger over festering bitterness,” wrote theater critic Frank Rich of her work in the show.
“The actress finds the spiritual quotient in the acceptance that accompanies Rose’s love for a scarred, profoundly complicated man.” Alice would go on to win a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance. “I accept this tribute in memory of my beloved father, Sam Smith,” she said in her acceptance speech.
Alice received two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work in I’ll Fly Away, winning the latter of the two in 1993. This made her only the third Black actress to win the award, after Gail Fisher in 1970 and Alfre Woodard in 1984.
ARE RELATIONSHIPS THE NEW CURRENCY? If so, Ty DeLavallade, Founder, Deuce Premium, Is Cashing in BIG Time.

Ty DeLavallade spoke candidly with The ModGolf podcast and admitted he didn’t have the financial capital to start-up Deuce Premium, his golf and lifestyle accessories brands, but he challenged himself.
“But I have teeth to cut in the steak and I have the resources and access to the golf industry because I’ve been in golf for twelve years now. I can figure something out,” he said.
LISTEN TO PODCAST HERE

DeLavallade joins host Colin Weston to talk about how he started his Black-owned business.
“I did some research to find out what other Black-owned businesses are there out there,” he said. “To be fair, I didn’t find any. I decided that night was I going to call it Deuce and did not know what the logo was going to look like, but I wanted to somehow leave a legacy for my son. I’ve called him Deuce since he was three. It’s a cool name.
“What I realized was that when you’re building a company, you’re really building a tribe. You’re really building a support group around you of people who are proud to wear the hat because it’s cool brand. They wear it because of the quality. Whatever it is, I’m OK with that.”
